What is Estimay?

Estimay is planning poker for teams whose backlog lives in Asana. Connect a room to Asana and bring in a project's open tasks without copying anything by hand. You can import the whole project or a single section, such as "Sprint 12" or "Backlog", in the project's own order. Re-importing only adds tasks that are not yet in the room.

Each task becomes a story linked to its Asana task. The team votes with hidden cards until the reveal, then discusses the spread and agrees on a final estimate. This works live on a call or asynchronously across time zones. Teammates join from a link with just their name. Only the person who connects the room needs an Asana account.

Key features for Asana users:
  • Import tasks by project or section, with search and multi-select.

  • Hidden votes, a discussion timer, custom decks (Fibonacci, T-shirt sizes…), and extra questions such as risk or clarity.

  • Optionally split stories by discipline (Frontend, Backend, QA). The story's points are the total, and the comment shows each discipline's estimate.

  • Estimates write back automatically as task comments and update the "Story Points" custom field without duplicates.

  • One host connects the integration, allowing the entire team to estimate without individual Asana logins.

How to connect Estimay + Asana?

Prerequisite: An Asana account. Estimay requires no registration or user account creation. Anyone can create or join a room directly in the browser.

Follow these steps:
  1. Create a room: Go to https://estimay.io/new. Enter your room name and display name, pick a voting system, choose between live or async mode, and click Create room. Share the generated room link with your team.

  2. Initiate the Asana connection: As the room's host or a facilitator, open the "..." menu on the stories panel and select Import from a tracker -> Asana -> Connect Asana.

  3. Authorize access: An Asana authorization window will open. Sign in if prompted, review the requested permissions, and click Allow. Estimay requests the following standard scopes:

    • users:read: Identifies the connected Asana account.

    • workspaces:read, projects:read: Lists your available workspaces and projects.

    • tasks:read: Retrieves open tasks and sections.

    • stories:read, stories:write: Posts and updates estimate comments.

    • tasks:write, custom_fields:read, custom_fields:write: Locates and populates the Story points custom field.

  4. Select a project: Choose your workspace (if you belong to more than one) and project. Select whether to import the entire project or a specific section.

  5. Import tasks: Select the tasks you want to estimate from the list. Optionally choose disciplines to split points, then click Import, and each task becomes a story linked back to it.

  6. Enable automatic write-back (optional): In the same window, switch on Write estimates to Asana automatically.

  7. Vote and estimate: Select a story and click Start voting. Once team members have cast their votes, click Reveal cards, discuss the results, and confirm the Final estimate.

  8. Sync to Asana: If automatic write-back is enabled, the estimate syncs within a few seconds. Alternatively, click the ⋯ menu on any story and select Write estimate to Asana.

Click Disconnect in the import window, or end the room, and Estimay revokes and deletes its Asana tokens. Users can also remove Estimay at any time in Asana under My settings → Apps.
